We have visited El Gran Escape several times while visiting Quepos. They will cook your fresh catch, which is wonderful. On a recent visit to the bar side to watch a game, we were very disappointed that the bartender, hostess and owner tolerated a loud-mouthed gringo with two hookers, one for each arm. He was boastful about this, even saying that he liked coming there because the owners knew him let him come there with "them" as he nodded to the women on each side of him, because he was a good customer.
Later in the afternoon, the "ladies" handed out their cards to some desperate men in the bar right in front of some members of our group, and in front of the owner. Very disappointing that they tolerate and support this type of behavior. There were families in the bar with school-aged children, which made this scene even more unbelievable. Sorry El Gran Escape, you can keep your "good customer" loud-mouthed gringo scum and we will find somewhere else to go while we are in Quepos.
After 3 days in Quepos, I was avoiding this restaurant because it looked too Americanized. It was around the corner from our hotel. We decided to try it after an afternoon of kayaking. We had a table near the sidewalk to people-watch. I had the grilled grouper, which was served with a salad, rice, vegetables!
It was excellent! My daughter had a mahi-mahi sandwich which she also enjoyed. We had heard about this restaurant from some locals as well as guide books. The food and drinks were fantastic!
