Information confirmed to the best of my ability. Very nice beaches and a lively party scene. Worth a stop if you're in the Dominican Republic. Humid in the winter. Keep an eye on your belongings and you'll be alright.

Many of the locals girls are hustlers, and many of the foreign ones are intolerable I'm including the town of Sosua in this assessment. If you want to meet a Dominican girl, don't count on Puerto Plata to provide. But there is a general sense of licentiousness around here, so sex should not be too difficult to come by if you're standards aren't too high. On the beaches you'll see plenty of amazing bodies but the faces aren't at San Francisco levels.
The only advantage this Dominican city has over others in this department is that you're likely to see a lot more skin. Puerto Plata is a very hotel-oriented place so it might be tough to snare a cheap apartment. Puerto Plata is pretty standard for resort destination nightlife. Only with more casinos. And hookers. The best thing to do is to follow the herd to wherever looks exciting.
The chance of hooking-up with a non-pro here is next to none if you don't speak any Spanish. I recommend: Pure. In with one of the casinos. A good mix of locals and tourists. But you can't go too wrong by wandering in to any loud and busy establishment. If you want to meet women in the Dominican Republic, you will need to speak some Spanish. Diving here is shit, and hotel jobs are mostly for locals.
