Im heutigen Post möchte ich einmal aufklären – und zwar über das Leben als Blogger: wie es ist, selbstständig zu sein, welche Sorgen man hat, warum Bloggen viel anstrengender ist als alle glauben und warum ich mir das trotzdem antue?

Natürlich, ich kenne das Klischee: Blogger bekommen alles umsonst, leben davon, ein paar Bilder zu schießen und haben den ganzen Tag nichts anderes zu tun, als sich darüber Gedanken zu machen, was sie anziehen sollen. Ganz ehrlich, sehr weit gefehlt! Natürlich, der eine oder andere Aspekt ist wahr: Angebote für Gratis-Klamotten und Co gibt es ab einem bestimmten Punkt wie Sand am Meer, aber was für eine Arbeit eigentlich dahinter steckt und warum das so toll auch nicht ist? Lest selbst.

Zunächst einmal: ich blogge nicht hauptberuflich – ich studiere. Für mein Zeitmanagement heißt das wiederum natürlich, dass alles einer ziemlich detaillierten Organisation bedarf, um Uni, Klausuren und den Blog unter einen Hut zu bekommen – und naja, dann natürlich auch noch ein Privatleben zu haben. Und unter Bloggen hatte ich persönlich mir auch immer irgendwie weniger Arbeit vorgestellt: Ich dachte nicht, dass hinter einem einzigen Post, den man im Normalfall in wenigen Minuten zu Ende gelesen hat, so viele Stunden Arbeit stecken können. Warum auch? Wofür gehen die denn bitte drauf?… Nun ja, das Fotos schießen, was im Normalfall natürlich auch mit Outfit und Location aussuchen verbunden ist, leuchtete mir noch ein, das Texten und Links einsetzen ebenso. Dass aber hinter dem Aufbau eines gut laufenden Blogs so viel mehr steckt, hatte ich nie vermutet. Es ist eigentlich ein ziemlicher Fulltime-Job inklusive dem Beantworten jeder Menge Emails, dem Schreiben von Rechnungen, einer Buchhaltung, einer Steuererklärung und allem, was man sich so vorstellen kann. Genauso gehört rechtlicher Kram dazu, den man auch auf gar keinen Fall unterschätzen sollte. Ich muss gestehen, da habe ich mir von Anfang an Hilfe von einem Anwalt geholt, da ich mich juristisch gerade im Online-Medien-Bereich nicht genügend auskenne. Und das ganze machst du JEDEN TAG. Jeden Tag Instagram, jeden Tag Facebook, ab und an noch Snapchat, jeden zweiten Tag zumindest Emails beantworten, Looks fotografieren und und und. Nun, die Frage ist: wie kriegt man das im Alltag unter? Als Student habe ich zumindest noch den Vorteil der ‘relativ’ freien Zeiteinteilung. An dieser Stelle muss ich sagen: Ich bewundere alle Fest-Arbeitenden, die zusätzlich noch Blogger sind – ernsthaft, Leute, wie macht ihr das?

Ein weiteres heikles Thema im Bloggerdasein ist: Bezahlung. Viele Unternehmen glauben, Klamotten, Schminke und Co seien eine gerechtfertigte Bezahlung. Wovon soll man dann bitte seinen Lebensunterhalt bestreiten? Soll ich das nächste Mal bei Aldi an der Kasse fragen, ob ich für meinen Einkauf singen kann? Oder ob sie dafür gerne ein Haarpflegeprodukt hätten? Sorry, so läuft das nun mal nicht. Ich dachte immer, die Zeiten, in denen man Waren bzw. Dienstleistungen getauscht hat, seien vorbei.

Noch ein Nachteil der Selbstständigkeit: Du kommst eigentlich nie zu Ruhe. Wenn du einen kleinen Zeitpuffer hast, setzt du dich meistens nicht gerade vor den Fernseher, sondern machst dich an die Arbeit, weil ja immer irgendetwas zu tun ist. Jedenfalls ist das bei mir so. Und damit mein Privatleben nicht zu kurz kommt, muss ich mir explizit Zeit dafür nehmen. Das heißt so oft es geht ‘Kein-Handy-Abende’ und regelmäßig ganz viel bewusste Zeit für alle, die einem wichtig sind.

All dieses Gejammer über meinen Job (ich hoffe, ich war nicht zu destruktiv, ich wollte nur einmal schonungslos ehrlich berichten) wirft natürlich nun die Frage auf: warum tut die sich das denn dann an? Ganz einfach: weil ich es liebe! Weil mich genau dieser Job echt glücklich macht. Ich kann kreativ sein, mich modisch immer neu ausprobieren, mich immer wieder neu erfinden und habe schon unfassbar viele inspirierende, nette, kreative, tolle Menschen kennengelernt. Dieser Job macht meinen Alltag noch abwechslungsreicher, öffnet unfassbar viele Türen und lässt mich ganz sicher nicht faul werden. Und ich freue mich auf alles, was da noch kommt! English: In today’s post I would like to address the topic of a self-employed blogger’s life: how it is to be your own boss, what kind of worries you have, why blogging is a lot more effort than everybody thinks and why I actually do this job.

Of course, I know the stereotype of a blogger who always gets everything for free, who can basically live from shooting some pictures and who doesn’t have anything to do but chosing outfits. Seriously, way off the mark! For sure, some aspects of this cliché are true: offers for free clothes are pretty normal at a certain point but in the following I will tell you how all this really works…

First of all: actually I’m a student AND a blogger which means that my time management has to be pretty organized to get everything accomplished like university, exams and the blog work – and to still have a private life. Some time ago, before I was a blogger myself I had a different image of this job. I thought it would be less work and I didn’t expect a single post, which is usually read in some minutes, to be work of many hours. All this time is needed for finding a look and a location, to take the pictures, to write the blogpost, to integrate the links etc. But what I really never knew is that there is even a lot more work behind a well running blog: you have to answer tons of emails, bills, have an accountancy, do a tax declaration and a lot more. Well… there’s also a lot of juristic stuff to know but for this I got myself some help from a lawyer from the very beginning. Basically, there’s just so much to do EVERY DAY. Every day some Instagram pictures, some Facebook pictures and every once in a while Snapchat, every second day at least you have to answer your mails, shoot outfits and so much more. Now the question is: How can you accomplish all this in your every day life besides all the normal stuff you have to do? At least I have the advantage of ‘relatively’ free time management as a student. By the way, at this point I definitely have to mention how much I admire all those bloggers, who have a regular job. Seriously, how do you guys do that?

Another very precarious topic is the payment. Many companies think that clothes, make up and Co are a fair payment for bloggers. But how can you pay for your livelihood like this? Should I ask at the grocery store next time if I can sing for my groceries? Or if they want a hair care product? Sorry, that simply doesn’t work. Times when people exchanged goods are over.

Here’s another disadvantage of being self-employed: You never take time for yourself. And if you have some time, you will never sit down in front of the TV but rather work beause there’s always something to do. To keep my private life intact, I regularly have to take time for friends and I need to have some ‘No phone evenings’ as well.

After all these complaints about my job (and I hope that I haven’t been complaining too badly, I just wanted to be completely honest) this for sure raises the question: Why is she doing it then? The answer is simple: Because I love it and because it makes me incredibly happy. I can be creative, I can always reinvent myself and I’ve already met so many inspiring, nice, creative, amazing people! This job makes my every day life even more diverse, it opens so many doors to me and it never lets me get lazy. I’m super excited for the future! Have a great, relaxed Sunday guys!
