5 life lessons I had to learn in 2017

Guys, 2017 has been a special year. A whole lot has happened – good as well as bad. What we really have to do – or at least to try is learn from what has happened. Here are my life lessons I had to learn in 2017.

„Don’t get upset with people or situations. Both are powerless without your reaction.“

Whenever you are in a situation that could totally get you upset, simply imagine a glass panel around you. A very good friend of mine once told me not to let this negative feeling that a situation or a person gave you get you down. Do not put any effort and negative energy in situations (or people) that are just not worth it. And I promise, sometimes NO reaction can be the strongest and most powerful one. It sounds easy, it is hard, I know. But try to be relaxed. The worst a negative situation can do to you is getting you down. Draw consequences, learn from your mistakes but move on and don’t put any energy into a situation which is just not worth it.

„We must learn who is gold and who is simply gold pleated.“

My grandma used to say that. And I cannot tell you how right she is. Throughout this year, I learned and realized how many wonderful people I have in my life who have made 2017 so much better. They are gold – solid gold. They made me smile, they helped me no matter what I needed help for, they were there and I know, they always will. Sometimes we also believe people to be this gold but they are not and you will only find out during bad times. That’s what these bad times are really good for. You will be able to see who you can rely on forever, no matter what you will go through. Well… and talking about gold pleated people, go back to the first quote. ; )

„Feelings are much like waves. We can’t stop them from coming but we can choose which one to surf.“

This is probably one of my favorite quotes ever. You could even find a huge print with it in my office. This is so true. You are in charge, you can decide, you can choose what you want to focus on. So do it. Do not let any negative emotion ruin your day, your week or your month and as soon as you realize that there is one negative wave, simply get your distance.

„You know who’s gonna give you everything? Yourself.“

Oh yes, baby. Seriously, I have never been a person who relied on others. Not financially. Whenever I wanted something, even when I was a child or a teenager, I worked for it. Basically I am almost never not working. But especially throughout this year I realized how much all of the work was worth it. Whatever you crave, you wish for, whatever you want to achieve, you can – and you will. Do not ever stop believing in that.

„Some day you’ll look back and understand why it all happened the way it did.“

A couple times in life I  really struggled because I could not understand why something happened the way it did. Looking back it always makes sense and sometimes it really takes a while. Sometimes strokes of fate, disappointments and fear will make you question everything. You will have those really bad moments. But do not let this get you down. I promise, after bad times good ones will follow and all you have to do is dream, believe, work and focus on the good. xx, Anna
