So we just arrived to Ko Samui and went out to the "main bar area" and it felt like it was all prostitution. We are pretty close to the airport on the north east of the island staying off Moo 3 and it was a bit of a walk there but that seemed to be the only spot where bars were still open. We didn't see any in the Choeng mon area. We were there for 3 days, 2 nights. What time were you going out? If you're talking after midnight then you have limited options.
If you're just out for some dinner and drinks there are plenty of options. Where exactly did you go? There isn't really that much on the island.
You could try Fisherman's Village in Bophut. No lady boys or hookers there. We have been to Samui every year for past 10 years and the only so called ladyboys we see are outside the two cabarets on Chaweng Beach Road. They are harmless and cause no problems. We could count the number of hookers we have seen in this period on one hand but then we dont really go looking for them so I dont know what resort you are staying in or what you refer to as the main bar area.
We were on Chaweng Beach Road and it was 2am. It was our first night here and our flight got in pretty late around 11pm I have no problem with lady boys, and I know they are harmless prostitutes don't really bother me either.
When I am with my wife they are very respectful. It was just a bit of a shock. We weren't expecting that. How do you know the ladies of the night were "ladies of the night" or even "ladies"? Unless that is the time you are going to be out on a regular basis I would say your observation was pretty irregular. At that time of night early AM Chaweng is really the only option for nightlife. For something a little more sophisticated maybe try Q Bar or Bar Solo.
