The issue of street prostitution in Limerick city is getting a lot of attention in the media - hopefully this attention will move to action but not the action that criminalises the women. All reports seem to indicate these women are controlled by pimps - they need to be therefore considered victims of crime and receive the necessary assistance. Women in prostitution are always the easy targets but its the consumers in any business that creates and sustains the market - the response to this issue needs to focus on the buyers.
