I have travelled extensively in Europe and this was the most bizarre and uncomfortable hotel stay that I have ever experienced. When I decided to visit my daughter in Rome, my travel agent and I chose the Suite Sistina for its good reviews and locations.
No family or single woman travelling alone should EVER stay here. I arrived in Rome WITH my daughter, who had travelled with me from Florence and wanted to help me check in to the hotel before taking me out to dinner. When we got to the room, the experience got even more uncomfortable. The few lights that were on were on the floor and there was a disco ball light turned on, which was not only cheesy but again awkward given the sex-themed brochure in the room.
There were even chili peppers on the bed! The hotel staff should have known that I was not there as part of a couple and that this setting would not be appropriate for a single woman. The bizarre The bizarre vibe was accentuated by the fact that the glassed-in shower was IN the main room and anyone showering would be visible to all in the room — again NOT what I or most people coming to Rome was looking for.
The references to erotic activities made me more acutely concerned about the cleanliness of the room. The bedspread had stains on it and the only blanket in the room was stuffed not even folded into a plastic storage bin and did not seem clean.
When I called down to the desk to ask about a blanket, the person who came to my room just pointed to the plastic drawer. I can document the state of the blanket and comforter in photos that I took that night.
